Culturally there has not been a tradition of women’s sports in the Eastern Congo, but there are plenty of women who would love to play. For the past five years Project Congo has worked to expand athletic opportunities for young Congolese women through sponsoring the Goma Lady Lions, or the Simbas. The Simbas need financial help and supplies to continue their program. They would love to find a sponsor ot even "sister teams" in the USA to provide encouragement and support. No gesture is too small to change a life. With your help, our soccer programs can continue to grow, providing a way for girls to build self esteem and rebuild their lives which have been shattered by war and poverty.
In addition to soccer, the Simbas also encourage the girls to finish thier high school education or undergo vocational training in sewing and interior design at the Miss Lizzy's Workshop founded by Project Congo. We are seeking sponsor families in to help. For 250$ a year you can sponsor a girl's high school tuition and bring her the lasting gift of an education.
